Capturing work
Tasks
A task is the smallest unit in the app — a single thing to do. You can capture one in a second and never open a form, or open it up and give it a due date, a note, subtasks, tags, and an owner. Nothing is required except the title.
Creating a task
Every list and view has an Add a task bar pinned to the bottom. Type a title, press ↵, and it lands at the top of the list. That same input understands plain language — a date, a repeat, a #tag, and an @assignee typed inline are parsed for you (see Quick add & natural language).
This sprint
You can also open Quick add from anywhere (the keyboard shortcut n) to capture a task without leaving the view you’re in, choosing its destination project and list as you go.
Completing & reopening
Tap the circle on the left of any row to complete it; the row settles and the count in the header ticks up. Tap it again to reopen. On mobile, swipe right on a row to complete it — with an undo if you swiped by accident.
The detail sheet
Click a task (or swipe left on mobile) to open its detail sheet. This is where a task grows up: an editable title, and a column of actions you can fill in or leave empty.

Notes
Each task has a free-text notefor the context that doesn’t fit in a title — a link, a decision, a reminder to yourself. It saves as you type. Tasks with a note are filterable by the Has a note filter.
Subtasks
Any task can hold a checklist of subtasks. Add them under the title, drag to reorder, and watch the parent show a done / totalcount. Subtasks are one level deep on purpose — they’re a checklist, not a second project hiding inside a task.
Moving a task
Use Move to listin the detail sheet, or drag a task onto a list in the sidebar. There’s one rule worth knowing, and it exists to keep things tidy:
- 1A task in a project moves freely between that project’s lists and across the smart views.
- 2A task can’t jump into a different project — projects are real boundaries (people, sharing, roles).
- 3The exception: an Inbox task belongs to no project yet, so you can file it into any project and list.
Deleting a task
The trash icon in the detail sheet footer moves a task to the Bin, with an Undo toast. Nothing is gone for good until you empty the Bin — so deletion is always reversible in the meantime. See Settings, account & Bin.
